The present status of Quality in higher learning institutions of Pakistan is quite questionable in global context and in terms of knowledge being imparted in these institutions. Majority of the Pakistani Universities are not capable of meeting the international standards of higher education. The crucial gap in quality of higher education calls for focused approach to assure and enhance the standards of quality in the sector. Quality Assurance in higher education is a rising challenge in the global context as well.
Quality is the means through which an institution can guarantee with confidence and certainty, that the standards of its educational provision are being maintained and enhanced. Quality also refers to the attainment of standards of resourcing and provision in the higher education sector, and the achievements or outputs of an institution or system. Quality is a multidimensional concept, and it is not possible to arrive at one set of global quality standards against which local institutions can be assessed.
The key factors influencing the quality of higher education in the University is the quality of faculty, curriculum standards, technological infrastructure available, research environment, accreditation regime and the administrative policies and procedures implemented in institutions of higher learning.
The QECs are required to develop and implement the measures of quality assurance with promises of quality enhancement to meet the international standards of higher education. These QECs will be responsible for execution of the Quality Assurance policies designed by QAA, HEC.
